For this modern home, a block staircase with an enclosed balustrade was designed. The staircase appears to float in the space, as it is self-supporting, with the walls used to help anchor the structure.
Design
The block staircase is made of oak and stained in a dark tone to match the rest of the interior carpentry. Since the landing occupies a smaller space, a glass element was chosen for the balustrade. This keeps the balustrade on the landing transparent, allowing light to flow into the hallway.

Block staircases
Not every home is suitable for a “true” block staircase—a self-supporting staircase without stringers. How does it work? For a block staircase, we install steel pins into the wall before assembly, which are chemically anchored. In some cases, a steel stringer with steel pins is used, which is then plastered with the wall, making it invisible.
When this type of construction isn’t possible (for example, with thin drywall), it’s still possible to create the illusion of a block staircase using underlying stringers. The steps are still glued together at a 90-degree angle, preserving the block staircase effect.
For this reason, it’s always a good idea to discuss your staircase project with our team. There are often multiple ways to bring your staircase vision to life. We are happy to guide and assist you throughout the process to design and deliver your ideal staircase.
