Purchasing a block staircase
When purchasing a block staircase, it is important to keep in mind that extra space is required for installing this type of staircase. The steps are glued together at a 90-degree angle, which means this staircase does not have the so-called nosing (the overhanging edge of the step). To ensure safe walking, the steps of this model must therefore be made extra deep. If you prefer a “gentle staircase,” this is an especially important factor to consider. Before implementing a block staircase, the available space in the home must be carefully assessed, particularly the height and length.

Construction
In addition to the available space, there is another important factor to consider. Installing a block staircase requires a load-bearing wall, as the steps are attached to steel pins that are anchored into the wall. These pins can only be mounted in a structural wall and are not suitable for drywall or similar surfaces.
If no load-bearing wall is available, it is still possible to achieve the appearance of a block staircase. However, this requires using a stringer. There are several options for the stringer. For example, it can be cut into a Z-profile and glued to the steps, which works particularly well when choosing a glass balustrade. Another popular solution is installing traditional stringers underneath the staircase, which is also ideal if you plan to place a cabinet under the stairs.
