Purchasing a new staircase is not an everyday activity for most of us. That’s why it can be quite challenging to get an overview of the available options—and perhaps even more importantly, to understand the differences! Today, we’ll briefly address the frequently asked question: “Should I choose standard or custom-made staircases?”

Standard or custom-made
One of the first aspects to consider is asking yourself, “Do I prefer a custom-designed staircase or a standard staircase?” Keep in mind points such as:
- Will the staircase be placed in an enclosed space/hall or in an open area? Think of a living room or hall with glass walls.
- Does the staircase have a significant impact on the overall design of the home? Is making a style statement important?
- Do I have a lot of space for a staircase, or is the area small?
- What budget am I willing to allocate for a staircase? Am I prepared to make an investment in my home?
- Do I have material preferences for the staircase? For example, oak or glass?

Standard
If your budget is limited, the staircase is located in a small enclosed space, and you have no specific requirements or preferences for your staircase, it may be more practical to explore the options of a standard staircase. These standard staircases are readily available, and a carpenter or supplier can handle the installation for you. A key difference compared to a custom-made staircase is that standard staircases do not require structural elements. During installation, a central support post is used around which the steps rotate to reach the next floor. The staircase is adjusted on-site and is almost always made of pine or spruce wood.
Custom-made
Do you have a large open space, is the staircase placed in the middle of the living room, or do you have a spacious entrance/hall in your home? In that case, it can be very interesting to explore the options for custom-made staircases.
The advantage of a custom-made staircase, compared to a standard one, is that there are no limitations in terms of design and execution. You can choose your own materials, such as steel, glass, oak, beech, ash, wrought iron, and more. It is also possible to optimize the space down to the last millimeter. Our specialized team will measure the staircase for you, and based on these measurements, you will receive professional technical drawings. Once you approve the design, the staircase goes into production. After installation, you can immediately enjoy a true design staircase!
