Whereas we used to encounter many requests for traditional country-style homes, we now see a strong preference for modern, clean lines. The industrial style also seems to be somewhat out of fashion.
Additionally, there is the rise of a completely new trend: the neoclassical style. This style is characterized by a combination of classical forms presented in a modern way, with modern lines always serving as the guiding principle.
There is also a growing demand for unique products. Not everyone wants the same standard steel doors or the same tile floors anymore, and the same goes for standard staircases. In 2022, there are many possibilities in the world of staircases. At MH-Trappen, it is possible to create a fully custom-made staircase, based on popular models. In recent months, we have seen an increase in four staircase designs that are particularly well-suited for customizing certain elements. You can choose between different shapes, materials, colors, and types of balustrades.
We are pleased to introduce the following four popular staircase designs for 2022:
Box staircases
A modern staircase with a floating effect.
Characteristics of the box staircase:
- Risers and treads are glued at a 90-degree angle. No nosing is used on the steps.
- A closed space is created beneath the staircase, making it ideal for built-in storage.
- Extra-deep treads are required for safe use, so sufficient space is needed for this staircase model.
- No stringers are used, which emphasizes the clean lines of the treads and risers.
- A highly versatile staircase, available in many finishes and with various types of balustrades, allowing for full customization according to your preferences..
Center-stringer staircases
A modern staircase with a steel construction.
Characteristics of the center-stringer staircase:
- This staircase model is constructed with a steel center stringer, also called the staircase spine.
- Standard for us, extra design for you: we always route the tread supports into the steps. This emphasizes the floating treads and hides the construction from view.
- Ideal for both small and large spaces. Thanks to the minimalist design, this modern staircase creates a spacious and open atmosphere.
- Can be finished with glass balustrades, stainless steel, or strip steel. During the design process, we are happy to work with you to fully customize the staircase to your preferences.
Neoclassical staircases
A marriage of modern and classic.
Characteristics of a neoclassical staircase:
- Neoclassical: a fusion of two styles, with modern forms as the starting point.
- The modern style is often combined with classical, country, and Art Deco elements.
- Fully customizable and entirely custom-made, making each staircase virtually unique.
- Can be composed of a wide variety of materials: sprayed beech wood, oiled oak treads, or stained mahogany — anything is possible.
- Can be designed to be minimalist, suitable for any space, or as grand as possible to serve as a real eye-catcher in your home.
- Often features curved elements.
Floating staircases trappen
Transparency is the guiding principle for this type of staircase.
Characteristics of a floating staircase:
- The balustrade is almost always made of glass, which also serves as a structural element.
- The treads are attached to the wall with steel pins, eliminating the need for a stringer.
- This is an open staircase, meaning it has no risers, making it ideal for a minimalist look. The staircase offers great transparency and a true design aesthetic.
- The tread thickness for this model starts at approximately 6 cm and can be made thicker if desired. For every type of staircase we provide, only solid hardwood is used.
- Treads can be finished in oak (oiled or stained in a color of your choice) or painted in any RAL color.
